Latin Music & Dance

Whilst we don't offer all dance styles listed below we think it's important to introduce you to the larger world of Latin music and dance.

Latin America is a melting pot of culture, history and music. Each genre has its own feel and accompanying dance style; From Salsa to Merengue, Bachata, Zouk, Samba, Lambada, Frevo, Forró and more.

Cuban Salsa (available at LDT)

Cuba-style salsa, unlike New York or LA-style, is danced in a circular motion similar to East Coast Swing, rather than in a line and makes way for lots of hand tricks and afro styling.

Bachata (available at LDT)

Originally from the Dominican Republic, bachata is one of the most popular dance styles around the world. If you go to any Latin dance social you're bound to hear this classic genre.

Brazilian Samba (available at LDT)

Brazilian Samba arose from a mixture of African and European influences in the 1500s. The dance is one the most popular dances in the world from South America and has evolved over time to become a cultural identity for Brazilians.

Forró (available in Cairns)

Forro (pronounced fo-ho) is a folk dance that oritinated in North-East Brazil. Generally danced to upbeat tunes forro can almost be considered a latin-swing style as they share similar syling and timings.

Zouk (available in Cairns)

Zouk originated in the Caribbean and has been windly adopted around the world due to the fact it uses 4/4 beats found in music that is popular across western & English-speaking cultures

Samba de Gafieira (available in Cairns)

Samba de Gafieira uses much of the same music that samba is danced to, minus the batucada. It's a partner dance that focuses on quick footwork and swinge styling.
